Today is dedicated to visiting the nearby Medina of Tunis, the largest in North Africa (larger than Fez or Cairo), where we will stroll through the various souks and main monuments including palaces being restored and traditional homes which illustrate the way of life and customs of the nineteenth century Tunis.
Lunch at restaurant serving genuine Tunisia food. Spend some time in the Medina and its Souks, colorful local markets to discover the exquisite craftsmanship of Tunisia's artisans and discover the traditions and cultural heritage of Tunisia in the various libraries and bookstores.

Day 3
Bardo Museum/Carthage/ Sidi Bou Said
Morning visit to the Bardo museum, considered one of the richest museums in the world. Housed in one of the former Husseinite palaces, it encloses all the treasures of Tunisian history: from pre-historic times to the Punic civilization, the Roman era, Christian's times, Muslim civilization and up to the twentieth century and features the world's largest collection of mosaics.
In the afternoon, we will visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site City of Carthage, the oldest phoenician settlement on the coast of North Africa, and its glorious monuments: the Anthonin themes, the Tophet at Salambo, the Amphitheatre, the Punic ports and the Acropolium. Continue to the WWII American cemetery of Cathage (General Patton's Kasserine Pass battle).
Continue to Sidi Bou Said, a 17th century village with immaculate white and blue houses, that has managed to preserve its charm and peacefulness. Stroll through Sidi Bou's narrow streets bordered by whitewashed houses with blue shutters and doors. Check out the various art galleries, try a bambalouni, light and crispy Tunisian style doughnut with some mint tea in one of the cafes of Sidi Bou Said and enjoy the superb view of the gulf of Tunis from one of Sidi Bou Said's traditional café. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4
Testour/Dougga/Kairouan
Depart from Tunis. Visit the ancient city of Dougga, one of the best-preserved roman cities in Africa. Listed in 1997 in the UNESCO World Heritage List, the town of Dougga, built on an elevated site overlooking a fertile plain, was the capital of Punic and Roman states. Lunch in Thugga.
Continue to Kairouan, the holy city of Tunisia with its impressive Islamic monuments some dating to 670AD. Walk at your leisure in the souks, taste the traditional local pastry stuffed with dates called makroudh, and learn about the traditional savoir-faire of women making rugs.
Check in and private dinner at your hotel, which lies at the heart of the holy city of Kairouan. This hotel, with a luxurious inside and a sober outlook, merges harmoniously into the Arab-Islamic architecture of the city of Kairouan. 2
Day 5
Kairouan/el Djem
Morning visit to the ninth century great mosque of Oqba ibn Nafi, an important reference point in Islam and Islamic architecture.
Continue to el Djem's spectacular amphitheater that dates from 238 A.D, and is the second largest in the World only to Rome's. Visit the newly opened small museum and the excavations extending behind the museum where beautiful mosaics have been found and then lunch.
Return to Kairouan, free afternoon in the beautiful Medina of Kairouan. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
Day 6
Journey to the Sahara/Tozeur
After breakfast, continue to Tozeur, an oasis town rising from the sands of the Sahara desert where we will arrive in the afternoon. Visit the Belvedere of Tozeur, with its 300,000 palm trees and over 400 hot and cold springs.

Check in your hotel. After dinner at the hotel, visit to the Dar Cheraiet museum, an architectural jewel born of 1001 nights dreams. The museum, partially out- door features luxurious decorations and gardens with the most representative scenes of North African life. 2
Day 7
Mountain Oasis
Depart to Metlaoui. Visit the Selja gorges if the Red Lizard Train is available (schedule not yet available), the train belonging to the Bey of Tunisia, ancient Ottoman ruler of Tunisia's part of the colonial heritage of Southern Tunisia. With six wagons, including one used by the Bey, the train takes you to discover the famous and otherwise inaccessible Selja gorges.
Continue to the oasis of Tamerza. Lunch in Tamerza. Explore the Mountain Oases of Mides and Chebika, which are perched in granite mountains above the Sahara and provide scenery for filmmakers in search of Biblical landscapes.
Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
Day 8
Douz/Matmata/Djerba
After breakfast, cross the dry salt lake of Chott el Djerid where fantastic forests and cities seem to appear on the horizon, only to be discovered as mirages. Arrive in Douz "gateway to the Sahara". This quiet, oasis village is home to the Festival of the Sahara and features a daily camel market. Lunch Sahara Douz.
Depart to the Berber village of Matmata and its famous troglodytes, homes built underground to protect the Berbers from summer heat. Berber Ksours are among the most exciting places to explore in Tunisia. One of these fabulous Berber village with its pitted lunar landscapes was the set of the ? Spielberg's movie Raiders of the Lost Arc and Lucas "Star Wars".
Continue to the Island of Djerba, land of the Lotus-eaters in Homer's Odyssey. Check in and dinner at hotel. 2

Visit the Ghriba synagogue, built in the 6th century BC (fall of Jerusalem to the Babylonians), one of the holiest Jewish places that hosts annual pilgrimage of Jews from all over the world and holds one of the most ancient Torah's in the world.
Continue to Houmt Souk, the island's capital, for a chance to experience local markets, crafts and foods, the museum of arts and popular traditions in Sidi Zitouni and the village of Guellala for its potteries. Lunch at leisure (recommended Haroun Djerba).

Today you will start the tour by visiting Carthage the capital of the great Carthaginian Empire. There will be visits to the Byrsa Hill and Roman buildings, the Punic ports, the Salammbo Tophet, and the Antonine Baths.
Continue to visit the picturesque Andalusian village Sidi Bou Said. It is a delightful place for a leisurely stroll through its winding cobbled streets. Its trademark white walls, contrasting sky blue doors and ornate window grids make for wonderful photography. This village is a meeting place for artists, and it offers a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Tunis..
Next visit of the Bardo Tunisia's National Museum with it's archaeological collections including the world's largest collection of Roman polychrome mosaics. Continue to visit the medina of Tunis, Tunis's historic heart, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you will have time to make shopping and stroll through the winding Medina's streets, with its souk (door-to-door shops selling all types of local curiosities) one of the world's great marketplaces and retrace its remarkable wealthy past, you will have also a walking tour within the modern city Transfer back to hotel. Holy city of Kairouan- Gafsa
This morning we depart to Kairouan, the first Holy Islamic City in North Africa and known for its fortified Medina and authentic architectural style. This town was declared by as a World Heritage Site in 1988, for its rich cultural heritage. This city remains a purely Arab city filled with outstanding examples of the finest Islamic architecture in Tunisia: We will Visit the Great Mosque, the oldest place of worship in North Africa, and the zaouia, or tomb complex, of Sidi Sahab, a companion of the Prophet. We will see the impressive pools at Aghlabid Basins, built in the 9th century to collect and store winter rainwater, a reminder of the engineering flair and ingenuity of the early Islamic rulers. We will also discover Bir Barouta, a 17th-century draw well, connected, so the legend says, by an underground channel with the Zem-Zem spring in Mecca.
Then free time to stroll into the Medina (old town), the ancient marketplace encircled by 11th-century walls. Kairouan also is noted for its souk, the crafting of carpets, and for its delicious pastries. Next we head to the south through a variety of local villages and changing landscapes.

Tour of Mountain Oasis
In the morning, we will depart to discover the mountain oases, where many of the scenes of The English Patient were filmed. You'll drive south into some of the country's most spectacular mountain desert scenery, visit the mountain oasis of Chebika Tamerza First we will visit Chebika, a mountain oasis which was known as the castle of the sun. The old village of Chebika was destroyed by storms, however some of the dwellings and buildings still remain intact. It was built on a around a steep gorge and provides amazing all round scenery.
We continue our mountain adventure to Tamerza, the largest mountain oases in Tunisa, to visit the palm grove, water-fall and old village. Accomodation at hotel, the reminder of day free or you can have an extra tour ($) to discover Oung El Jemel (neck of the camel), unusual desert rock formation, the site where Star Wars was filmed.

Tozeur-Museum of Dates-Chott El Jerid – Douz
The morning, visit of Tozeur, you will have a sightseeing tour of the village his quarter is famous for the unique decorative architecture in brick Also we ill visit the Museum of palm trees a very nicely done exposition about the date alm trees. It offers also a tour inside the oasis an explanation of the irrigation system. This visit will end by a degustation of date products.
Next we will cross the Chott El Jerid. This chott (flat, dry salt lake) is the largest in Tunisia and only becomes an inner sea during the winter rains, this region is also well-known for its “Desert Roses”. We drive to Douz, the oasis town known have a camel ride passing over the majestic sand dunes and picturesque Sahara as the “Gateway to the Sahara” Here you have the opportunity (optional $) to Desert, here the Sahara seems to go on forever.

Matmata-Gabès- El Jem Roman Coliseum
Today visit the village of Matmata, of Star Wars notoriety, but more importantly, center of the most extensive number of traditional troglodyte pit homes in the region. To get a feel for troglodyte living visit of one of these dwelling caves, then visit the hotel Sidi Driss, where scenes from the Lars homestead in Star Wars were filmed. Next we stop in Toujène to admire this picturesque Berber hill village with white washed in the mountains.
Depart to Gabès, the main attraction in the city centre is the souk (Souk Jara) area where locals sell fruit and vegetables, spices, dried fish and mounds of green henna for which the city is renowned, visit of the souks and market spices Continue to El Jem to visit the largest and most spectacular Roman amphitheater in North Africa and the best preserved in the world. The coliseum appears better preserved than the one in Rome and certainly, has seen far less numbers of tourists over the years. This colossal edifice (classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site) which seems to rise out of nowhere was designed with seating for 30,000 people and is similar to Rome’s Coliseum. In the small archaeological museum, see the gorgeous collection of mosaics. Visit the remains of Roman villas behind the museum.
